Rochester Washington

Camping at Mark's Farm

Arrival May 8, 2025

On this day we moved from Thousand Trails Chehalis to Laurie's brother Mark's farm in Rochester. We were able to get through the skinny drive and got set up just inside the first fence. We should hang out here for a while. We're thinking until we head to Eastern Washington which should be the middle of June.

This morning Gabby and I strolled around the farm taking some pictures and video. By no means the pictures below are but a fraction of all the critters here. From racing pigeons, ducks, chickens, goats and horses there are so many to observe and enjoy. I added a couple of short videos after the pictures. Fun times.

Well today was an interesting one. Mark and Laurie went to go and meet a person that was purchasing one of his dachshund's. For those that do not know mark and his partner John breed  dachshunds and have been doing so for a good many years. They are so cute.

Anyway I was sitting in the captains chair looking at a video and their young cow that is kept away from the others because they pick on her came strolling down the driveway. Now, how she got out is beyond me. I look all over and did not find where she escaped the back.

I went out and I guess I startled her because she bolted for behind John's house. There were some old portions of gate material nearby so I made a makeshift fence to keep her somewhat contained. After texting Mark he suggested I get some grain from the red barn out back, present it to her and she would follow me back into her enclosure. So I did that. She took to the grain immediately so I turned and guided her back from behind John's through the back yard and into the large area between the barns.

Not bad for a city boy, LOL. Pics posted below.

Not much to report for the last week. It has been very cool, cloudy and rainy most of the time. The weather is suppose to improve later this week with less rain and temperatures into the mid to upper 60's. This morning we saw some of the hardest rain in recent days. I have posted a video below.

What a very interesting day we had. To begin, the weather was very mixed. Light showers, partly cloudy with nice sunshine and very heavy showers from time to time. It was time for Mark's 7 horses to have their hooves trimmed. So, a local Farrier stopped by to do the job. Mark's partner John was at his day job and with Mark's bum shoulder, it left Laurie, and I do help with the bulk of the task. Wrangling the ones that really don't like being captured then holding them still during the trimming process was quite the challenge. They like to sneakily turn and try to bite you or the Farrier, so you have to keep their heads up and calm as possible. We didn't get any pictures or videos as we were so busy chasing and holding horses there wasn't time for that.

This past week has been a memorable and emotional one. On the 31st of May we held a memorial for Laurie's late step-mother Nancy Lamb. There were family, friends and former co-workers and lots of stories were told and tears were shed. Meanwhile on the farm the chores still keep a coming and Laurie and I tend to help out where and when we can. Mowing, watering, weeding, spreading fertilizer and the like. Below are some pictures I took over the past week of various things. Laurie got in some goat grooming, pics below.
